One easy way to gain Instagram followers | ashandcrafts.com

Hello there! Today will be my last post on my How to Start a Blog series. Please click here to start at the beginning of the series if you haven’t read it yet! Today’s post will be focusing on Instagram. I’ve read a lot of posts on how to boost your Instagram. The most common tips I’ve seen are:

1) Take really nice photos – since Instagram is basically like a mini magazine, this is a given. Each post you make is an opportunity for you to draw in new followers, so make sure your photo is eye-catching.

2) Use hashtags – always add relevant hashtags to your photos to help others find your photo. Don’t use overly specific hashtags because it is unlikely someone is going to search for that term. Instead, go for a broader term that would be more likely be searched. For example, use #food instead of #chickenandbroccoli, or #DIY, #crafts, #gardening and #masonjar instead of #masonjarplanter.

3) Include your blog link in your bio – Since this is the only place on Instagram with clickable links, add your bio link here.

I’ve had my Instagram for about 10 weeks, and I am currently close to 1,000 followers. Not a huge number, but I gained most of these followers within the last 5-6 weeks. Besides participating in giveaways that involve Instagram followers, this is the best way I have discovered how to gain active and engaged Instagram followers:

When I have any down time, I go to “search” then “hashtags” and search for relevant hashtags in my niche. Then I go through the photos and like and comment on the ones that really stand out to me. When you like and comment on someone’s photos, chances are they may end up peeking at your Instagram profile and liking your photos or following you! My favorite hashtag to search is “#DIY”. I also like to search topical tags like “#Easter”. I try to do this every night before going to sleep and I always wake up to new followers the next day! Don’t like and comment on every single picture, because Instagram will block you for being spammy. Only like and comment on the ones you truly like and you’ll find that many will end up following you. These followers are better than the followers gained in a giveaway because they have already shown interest in your niche topic and are more likely to visit links and comment on your Instagram posts. This is also a great way for you to find new Instagrammers to follow.

I hope this help you with your Instagram profile! Do you have any great Instagram tips?

What a great series, I will have to go back and read some of your old posts. I haven’t tried any of the IG ‘loop’ giveaways to gain followers, but I want to try one in the future. I do think adding hashtags helps and I also try to comment a lot on the people that follow me and then I build up relationships and they do the same. BTW, I love your blog design, so pretty!!!

Hi there Carrie! I haven’t tried any of the loop giveaways either, but I’m sure they work because I’ve entered in some! πŸ˜€ Thank you so much for your compliments!

Wow, you have almost 1000 followers after only 10 weeks? That’s awesome! It took me forever to get to 1k, but I’ve been growing a lot more steadily now. For awhile I didn’t do much to try to grow it, but I’ve been focusing on it lately. Going through relevant hashtags and commenting/following people has really helped me. One of my favorites is #ontheblog. I find lots of great people to follow there!

Love the tips and I’m still trying to master the picture taking one…ugh! What do you use for a clean, white background when taking your pictures?

Thanks so much Alisha! In my craft room, all the furniture is white, so I often use my table as the background if I am photographing something white. If something is standing up and I need a white wall, I just tape a piece of poster board so that it comes down the wall and curves onto my desk. Don’t tape the entire poster to the wall, but rather let the bottom of the poster bend onto your desk. That way, you have a seamless white background. I hope this helps! If my explanation is unclear, let me know! I can do a post on how to get a white background. πŸ™‚
